How to Configure and Download Bently Nevada 3500 Machinery Protection System

The Bently Nevada 3500 Machinery Protection System is a leading solution for monitoring and protecting rotating machinery such as gas turbines, compressors, motors, generators, and more. The 3500 system consists of a rack that houses various modules for different functions such as vibration, temperature, speed, position, process, and pressure monitoring. The system can be configured and downloaded using the Bently Nevada software tools such as System 1 or Rack Configuration Software.

In this article, we will show you how to modify the existing configuration and perform the download using the Rack Configuration Software. This software allows you to create, edit, save, and download configuration files for the 3500 system. You can also view the status and diagnostics of the system using this software.

Step 1: Connect to the 3500 System

To connect to the 3500 system, you need a PC with the Rack Configuration Software installed and a communication cable that connects the PC to the Rack Interface Module (RIM) of the 3500 rack. The RIM is the primary interface to the configuration, display, and condition monitoring software. It also provides Ethernet communication between the 3500 system and the control system.

Once you have connected the PC to the RIM, launch the Rack Configuration Software and select "Connect" from the "File" menu. You will see a dialog box where you can enter the IP address of the RIM or select it from a list of available devices. Click "OK" to establish the connection.

Step 2: Open or Create a Configuration File

After connecting to the 3500 system, you can open an existing configuration file or create a new one. To open an existing file, select "Open" from the "File" menu and browse to the location of the file. The file extension is .zip and contains all the information about the configuration of the 3500 system.

To create a new configuration file, select "New" from the "File" menu and enter a name for the file. You will see a blank configuration window where you can add modules and configure their settings.

Step 3: Modify the Configuration

To modify the configuration of the 3500 system, you can use the toolbar buttons or right-click on any module or channel to access various options. You can add or remove modules, change their order, rename them, copy and paste settings, and more. You can also view and edit the properties of each module or channel by double-clicking on them or selecting "Properties" from the right-click menu.

Some of the common properties that you can configure are:

The type of input signal (RTD, thermocouple, proximity probe, etc.)

The measurement range and units

The alarm and danger thresholds

The filter settings

The output relay settings

The calibration data

You can also configure global settings for the entire 3500 system such as:

The rack name and location

The time zone and date format

The password protection

The communication settings

The display settings

As you modify the configuration, you will see a status bar at the bottom of the window that shows whether your changes are saved or not. You can save your changes at any time by selecting "Save" from the "File" menu or clicking on the save button on the toolbar.

Step 4: Download the Configuration

Once you have finished modifying the configuration, you can download it to the 3500 system by selecting "Download" from

the "File" menu or clicking on

the download button on

the toolbar. You will see

a dialog box where you can choose whether to download

the entire configuration or only

the changes since

the last download. You can also select whether to overwrite

the existing configuration on

the rack or save it as

a backup file. 9160f4acd4
